Barns, Farms and Rolling Hills of Chester County

Find out what makes Chester County, Pennsylvania, worthy of a day trip, in this photographic journey from east to west, from sunrise to sunset, and in all four seasons. While some of the sights were captured along the main roads of this rural county, it’s the fine-grained network of back roads that transports viewers back in time with their hidden gems: classic old barns, rolling hills, gravel lanes, and wind breaks memorialising a simpler way of life. The livestock that call these farms home are as diverse as the barns themselves, including horses, cows, sheep, and goats, not to mention Texas longhorn cattle, buffalo, bison, emu, and alpaca. The Radnor Hunt and other events are a testament to the area’s commitment to preserving open space in an area of growing density on the outskirts of Philadelphia. AUTHOR: Jerome M. Casey has been a Chester County resident since 2003 and a photographer for more than 40 years. This book was inspired by the sight of a beautiful old stone barn being torn down to make room for new houses.
