Believing that it is the photographer, not the camera that makes the photograph, this is a collection of iPhone photographs made while traveling across the world. ‘The Phone Book’ places two photographs on opposing pages, creating spreads that invite the viewer to discover their own connections between the images and their own interpretation and experience. ‘The Phone Book’ is a thread to broadening one’s artistic sensibility, knowledge, visual literacy, and sense of connection with people and places throughout the world. AUTHOR: Robert Herman (born in Brooklyn, NY, 1955) completed his education at New York University and the School of Visual Arts. His work has been widely recognised: He is a winner of the PX3 Prix de la Photographie People’s Choice Award, the Alitalia per L'arte Rome Prize, and was selected as one Artist’s Wanted/Exposure Top Fifty. His iPhone/Hipstamatic photography was shortlisted for the International Street Photography Award at the London Festival of Photography and won an Honorable Mention in the Fotovisura Grant competition. His work is held in major collections, including the George Eastman House, and the Telfair Museum in Savannah, GA. Internationally, his work has been included in an exhibition at the Istanbul Photography Museum and he was honoured with a solo exhibition of A Waking Dream at the Museum of Modern Art in Cartagena, Colombia.
