Schubert the Progressive: History, Performance Practice, Analysis

This title aims to clarify the agenda for Schubert research in the 21st century. The author notes that research is more student-led then directed, with the inclinations and aptitudes of protagonists superceding the prescriptions of mentors. Moreover, there is a proliferation of sub-areas in Schubert research, roughly categorized under broad headings such as: analysis; aesthetics; biography; source study; or performance practice, to give some principal examples. This collection of research papers originate from a major conference to provide a platform for scholars working in this field. The unresolved questions of performance practice are numerous and complicated. This text delves into the area, with input from a variety of sources.
