The Battle for Aberdeen 1644

The first-ever history of the battle for Aberdeen fought during the British Civil Wars. On Friday the 13th September 1644, James Graham, the Marquis of Montrose, led the King’s army against a Scottish Parliamentary force outside the city of Aberdeen. Although outnumbered two to one the Royalists secured a clear victory over Lord Burleigh’s troops and subjected the city of Aberdeen to four days of rape and pillage. This is the story of the battle, the men who fought in it, and the residents of 17th century Aberdeen who suffered the consequences.
