When Spitfire at War first appeared in 1974, it enjoyed critical acclaim, for the aircraft had never been described in such terms and detail before. It was followed by a second volume in 1985 and a third volume in 1990. All three volumes sold well and are hailed as classic works on the subject. These important works were long out of print until this collected volume appeared in 2012. Now available in paperback, this single volume is the result of author Dr Alfred Price’s ‘cherry-picking’ among the choice cuts to produce the finest title on the mighty and beloved Spitfire. AUTHOR: The late Dr Alfred Price was brought up in Ewell near Epsom and much of the Battle of Britain was fought out over his home. He was always fascinated with military planes, the Spitfire and Luftwaffe most of all. As soon as he could, Price joined the RAF, then volunteered for aircrew as an Air Electronics Officer and flew in Hastings transports and Vulcan bombers. He also instructed in electronic warfare and target penetration tactics. He left the RAF as a Flight Lieutenant in 1974, having logged over 4,000 flying hours, to pursue his dream of becoming an aviation writer.
