A vivid new selection of fishing boats around Scotland and the Isles. This latest selection of fishing boats from James Pottinger covers many boats in earlier fishing rig, and demonstrates the changes that evolved in the design of the boats themselves on the way to the current arrangement of fish and net gear handling methods. It includes many examples of earlier trawlers, seine net boats, modern twin rig side and stern trawlers. Sadly progress has seen a gradual diminishing of the numbers of handsome wooden boats, and certain legislation and fishing restrictions has also caused an upsurge in the smaller and under 10m class, rigged for trawling, lining and shellfish catching. This latest collection revels in both the old and the new at a variety of locations around Scotland and the Isles. AUTHOR: James Pottinger is a retired marine engineer who has served in the Merchant Navy and in senior management in the North Sea oil industry for Scotland, Norway and Holland. Brought up in a fishing village in Shetland, he has a life-long interest in the fishing industry and many connections with it. He has previously written Fishing Boats of Scotland, Scottish Fishing Boats, Wooden Fishing Boats of Scotland, Scots of Greenock and Clyde Built for The History Press.
