A cold case for over four decades, the brutal murder of Dr Helen Davidson is finally solved by an amateur sleuth On 9 November 1966, popular GP Dr Helen Davidson was battered to death in dense woodland whilst bird watching and exercising her dog a few miles from her Buckinghamshire home. Her body was found the next day, her eyes having been pushed into her skull. The basic facts were published in The Times to the Bucks Free Press: ‘She had binoculars round her neck, spied illicit lovers, was spotted, and one or both of them killed her,’ surmised Detective Chief Inspector Jack ‘Razor’ Williams of New Scotland Yard. He had received fifty police commendations in his career, yet not one for a murder enquiry. Unsurprisingly, within weeks the police operation was wound down, Williams retired, and another Cold Case hit the statistics. However, fifty years later amateur sleuth and author Monica Weller set about solving the murder
without the help of the prohibited files. As she sifted the fresh evidence, a number of suspects and sinister motives began to emerge. Not a random killing, then. She uncovered secret passions, deep jealousies, unusual relationships and a victim with a dark past. Finally, her persistence and dedication were dramatically rewarded when she uncovered the identity of the murderer
revealed here for the first time. AUTHOR: Monica Weller co-wrote ‘Ruth Ellis: My Sister’s Secret Life’, in which she unveiled fresh evidence about the last woman to be hanged in the UK. She continues to campaign in her search for the truth, re-examining evidence upon which Ellis was convicted and hanged in 1955, and is the foremost authority on the subject. ‘Injured Parties’ is her second true crime book. SELLING POINTS: . Weller demonstrates a Miss Marple-like talent and a flair for investigative research . 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr Davidson’s murder . To get to the truth, she gathered fresh testimony from a key police officer and a forensic pathologist, both of whom had worked on the case in the 60s, and from previously uninterviewed witnesses . Reveals a police force that ignored evidence that did not fit its theory of a random killing 8pp b/w
