Despite proposals from on high to close down an apparently unsolvable case, dogged determination, the use of new computer technology and, for the first time in Britain, offender profiling, eventually saw not one but two men brought to justice. One of the detectives who led the enquiry was my father. This is a story of him and his kind, and how his last case before retirement took its toll on both him and his family.
