This book is a primer that will cover the fundamental physics and chemistry underlying non-equilibrium, low-temperature plasmas. The first edition is split into two parts. The first part focuses on the basic physics and chemistry of ionization (the creation of ions in an ionized gas) while the second part focused on ion transport (the motion of ions in a plasma).

In this second edition, a third part will be introduced that applies topics from the first two parts to introduce basic concepts relevant to plasmas, including breakdown (plasma initiation) and sheaths (plasma behaviour at boundaries), and discuss these within the context of basic descriptions of common plasma types (glow discharges, corona discharge, dielectric barrier discharges).
