Philosophies of Exclusion: Liberal Political Theory and Immigration

This volume argues that there is at present a serious gap between the legal and social practices of immigration and naturalization in libral Western democratic states. It asks how liberal states can develop institutions of democratic citizenship and at the same time justifiably exlude outsiders from participating in those institutions, and examines various responses to this contradiction within the liberal political tradition.
