The Cultures of the American New West

This volume examines the diverse cultures of the American new west emerging in the post-1945 climate of post-modern doubt and revision. Employing theoretical ideas from cultural studies and contemporary theory, the book explores aspects of the new west - landscape, visual representations, alternative histories and urbanism - and uses a range of primary materials (literature, film, photography) as evidence of these cultural changes and developments. In particular, the book assesses issues of ethnicity, ecology, gender, identity and history.
