Chambered cairns are amongst the earliest architectural achievements of the peoples of Scotland. They are the principal surviving evidence of the earliest agricultural communities, and include some of the finest examples of such monuments in Scotland. In particular, the Central Highlands saw two traditions of tomb-building and is thus a critical area in the elucidation of the neolithic period in Scotland.
