Truthful Words

Marge, a church secretary, is taking refreshments to an Elder meeting. As she passes through the empty sanctuary, she discovers Pastor Greg laying down thinking, not praying. The Elder meeting is to decide whether Greg should be fired for speaking the truth. Marge compassionately shares her own observation that Greg’s main concern is how others perceive him. Eventually, Greg asks her for something to do to take his mind off the waiting. The task she gives him is demeaning and similar to Jesus’ washing of feet, and combined with the words she has spoken to him, finally breaks his attitude of pride.
