The sexual revolution is often defined as the transformation of sexual attitudes and mores that began with the advent of the birth control pill in the 1960s. However, the trend toward more liberal sexual values actually began in 1918 and became prevalent in the latter twentieth century. This anthology traces the sexual revolution from its nineteenth-century free love harbingers through the more recent debate between defenders and critics of sexual liberation.
