Scientific Basis of Health Services

This work examines how the design and function of health services should be based on the best available scientific evidence. Discussing such issues as how practitioners can have ready access to research results; how science can identify the best treatments faster; how to identify and address the use of ineffective treatments; and the obligations on health service workers to set priorities. Chapters include: economic evaluation and clinical practice; impact of management on outcomes; advances in genetics: implications for health services; a critical look at the guidelines; the role of the consumer on health research; evidence based management in healthcare; and shifting the balance between primary and secondary care.
