Having learned from bitter experience that the less seemingly important an incident, the more trouble would possibly grow from it, Alvarez was very reluctant to help Miguel Munar, a distant relative by marriage of Dolores; Munar was suspected of smuggling, an occupation few Mallorquins considered to be illegal.
