Junkyard Umbrella

Junkyard Umbrella is a true to life book that resonates with readers of all ages. The short stories span a few years of ranch life in the 1930’s and 40’s in Southern Nevada. The effects from The Depression were still slamming economic recovery when a determined young couple bought and moved onto undeveloped land, purchased a tent for $11.00 to live in, and with foresight, prudence and resourcefulness ventured to develop a ranch that would sustain a family.

The short stories are written through the eyes of a young girl who avows to marvelous growin’ up years even while coping with the harshness of life, including death. The author emerged from these childhood experiences embracing faith that remains intact today.

The illustrator, Vicki Walker, created and added remarkable visual enhancement to each story. All of this took place as she struggled daily with a debilitating disease. Her story is certainly one of courage, endurance, and optimism.
