A fun Portland novel in the form of a literary magazine. When The American Quarterly Review gets taken over by two outsiders, a murder triggers a maze of weirdly connected events. Detective Zapf explores Sir Walter Scott’s landing on the Oregon coast, the American Stonehenge at Maryhill, Sylvia Plath’s birth certificate, Manzanita and Neahkahie Mountain. The climax is set in Portland’s west hills at the Pittock Mansion, and–for one character–Portland gets transformed into the 1895.
