It is set during the turmoil of the Great War. Between 1915 and 1918 in Detroit, Michigan the real life Bob Stevens wrote a newspaper called, The Gazette . His newspapers are the inspiration for this historical novel. Bob wants to be a war correspondent. For practice, he writes a neighborhood newspaper. He only hopes that the war will last long enough for him to get to Europe. Smart, independent Maggie understands the sacrifices war requires; she has two brothers fighting in France.
