The Moonvies: A story inspired by the art of Joseph Wheelwright
Jenny Schneider (Leibniz University of Hannover, Germany)
The book The Moonvies tells the story of a little boy, Joe, who loves the moon. His parents go out to the movies every Friday night, but in Joe’s mind they set out to see the moon. Disappointed that he is too little to join, he decides to watch the moon on his own. One night though, his parents decide to take him along and, as you can imagine, Joe is in for a big surprise. Will he enjoy the movies or will he miss the moon? Although the story is ficitional, it is inspired by the famous Boston sculptor Joseph Wheelwright. His moon sculptures are woven into the story through the illustrations and invite kids and parents to appreciate contemporary art.
