Mimie knew her life wasn’t heading in the same direction as the rest of the kids she’d grown up with. The scars from her childhood burns, the frost forming around her feet. The older she became the less she knew about her abilities. Gram, her only remaining family, knew what was happening to her but refused to tell her anything about their family’s past. On her 18th birthday Mimie receives the Guardian’s mark. She learns it is her duty to reclaim the key to the Golden Gate that leads to the magical half of the world. The key was stolen by Orient, the leader of an ancient order of tyrant humans called Zanties. Now humans are pouring in, and monsters are pouring out, creating more chaos by the day. Mimie soon realizes she isn’t as capable as she first thought. The magical world, Kolanna, is difficult to navigate and filled with dangerous people. An elf named Koren helps her find her way. In the process he carves a place in her heart that’s deeper than the friendship they share. Koren recruits Oviet, a flying unicorn, to help them, knowing she’d love the chance to escape from the prejudice of her old life. How much is Mimie willing to sacrifice to find a teacher to help her master her powers? When the time comes will she be strong enough to defeat Orient?
