This Altar Training Manual was originally developed by Bishop John Rankin, when he was with the Catholic Apostolic Church of Antioch, Malabar Rite. It was later edited by Archbishop Meri Spruit. Then and now, it was intended as an aid to seminarians and clergy. It beautifully expresses an attitude of awe and reverence for the Sacraments and sacramentals of the Church. It also reflects the sweet spirituality of its author and provides the reader with both practical tips and sage advice. We’re living in a different world than the one in which this manual was originally written-moving out of the industrial, modern, era and into a postmodern world, in which life is being changed by the revelations of quantum physics, new technology, computers, and rapidly expanding access to information. This revised ediiton includes updated language, and new text, graphics, and photos. It also includes a contemporary Eucharistic liturgy, with rubrics, that helps elucidate the traditional elements of the mass, but also integrates innovations inspired by the likes of such luminaries as Dom Bede Griffiths, Brother Wayne Teasdale, and Peace Pilgrim.
