Acing BYU: The Savvy Student’s Guide to Maximizing the Undergraduate Years

Ben Black,Nate Black

First of all, we commend you on your choice to pursue higher education at one of the finest universities in the world: Brigham Young University. BYU is home to a veritable smorgasbord of both academic and extracurricular programs that will enrich your undergraduate experience and help prepare you for your post-graduation ambitions.

Our hope is to introduce you to many of the fantastic programs, organizations, and resume-building activities available to you at BYU. In the chapters that follow, you will learn about scholarships and grants to help you pay for school, ways you can get involved outside of class to gain real-world work experience, and how stand out from the rest of the crowd when applying for jobs and professional programs.

We wrote this book with two audiences in mind: future and current Brigham Young University students. Chapter 1 will help future students as they tackle the admissions process, whether as new freshmen or as transfer students. Chapters 2 through 15 cover a variety of topics that will help current students discover ways to pay for school, pick a major (and minor), increase both the quantity and quality of their writing output, study abroad, and much, much more.
