Playing the Odds

Ben Wieserkowski P.I. had planned to start small. Some adultery, a missing persons, or perhaps a straightforward murder. But he’d been suckered by her damsel in distress routine and a great set of legs. It had been an ambush. He’d copped a severe beating, but a couple of Freddy’s goons had to be laying in traction - at least one of them must be in the burns unit. Somehow he had rescued the kid and saved Marcy’s life, and in doing so had taken down one psychopath mayor. With the check, he’d signed a six-month lease. His first case in the bag, Ben was gonna take a break and write the suspense novel he knew was inside of him.

That was before a couple of two-bit thugs kicked in his door and started shooting up the apartment. Now he finds himself caught between the Italian Mob and the Chinese mafia. Can he get to the bottom of the murky goings-on in Fog City before every hired goon and bent cop comes gunning for him, or will Playing the Odds cost Ben more than a new kitchen and a busted shoulder?
