Perchance to dream
I dream alone,
For who would share my dream?
My spirit calls to a kindred spirit,
But who will answer?
I walk wistfully through life
Wondering if I shall ever meet
The voice I hear in my heart.
Is it an illusion?
Did I dream it into existence?
It follows me hauntingly awake and asleep
Accompanied always by a fatalistic sense
of the unattainable.
I dream alone.
Is it not better thus
Than never to dream at all?
Joy Doolan's style is hers alone, and the feel of her poetry captures the ebbs and flows of life.
The poetry of Joy Doolan offers a candid and insightful look into the pains and joys of Australian life. From haunting reflections on the loss of those dearest to us, to a childhood so different than "the now", to political commentary on war and poverty, Joy has the sensitivity to capture moments everyone can relate to. This collection is a display of how the whispers from deep within are heard and transformed into words and poetry.
