Aperture is the second book and collaboration of David's poetry and Lindi's art. The first book, Trace Lines (2018), drew upon Lindi's photographic images. Since then, Lindi's art practice has shifted to abstract painting, initially centred around the design elements of the grid, and then evolving to more expressive and experimental forms. The artworks in this book retain Lindi's photographic fascination with mark making. Together with the emotional potential of colour - such as the allure of indigo - Lindi's paintings explore the themes of place and time, memory, and our own unique stories. David's poetry derives from the observed world and the attempt to discover something extraordinary in the most mundane or coincidental of events. The poetry strives to establish a connection with the reader in this interplay between external and internal worlds.Placing art with poetry is a delicate process. While there is nota literal reference between a poem and its accompanying artwork, the book seeks to establish an implied emotional connection. The reader can then respond to the collaboration in their own way, from their own experience. Aperture is a collaboration of poetry and art. It invites readers to find pleasure and meaning in the interplay of art and words. The visual image is a way into the words; the words an illumination of the abstract images.
