A red-coat soldier's tale. All is not straightforward when money and titles are involved. Madeline Brougham is asked to care for her best friend's orphaned son when his life is in danger. Chip Downes is the pawn between a greedy, unscrupulous uncle and his inheritance. Maddie must do everything she can to keep him safe, including moving halfway around the globe to take Chip to his guardian. Major Humphrey Downes is a soldier in the penal colony of Sydney. Humphrey's best friend, another soldier, Major Tim Hinds, meets Maddie, and with the support of these two men, a chase around the colony ensues.
