The Fish that Wanted to Fly takes us on the journey of Sanjeev, a Goldfish who lives in India. One day Sanjeev sees a beautiful eagle soaring in the sky and decides he wants to fly. Things don’t quite go to plan, but he learns a powerful lesson along the way:
Sometimes we want to be like others, but the best thing is to be ourselves.
Amy Kuruvilla wrote this story while developing a school program for Indian schools called ‘The Road to Respect, which aims to break the cycle of gender-based violence in India through education. The Fish that Wanted to Fly shares the message that we are all unique and created differently so that children will embrace their own individuality and realise that comparisons often aren’t helpful. Amy hopes that the sales from this book will help fund the implementation of the school program, but also enable her to present this book as a special gift to children in India.
