In his Spiritual Exercises, St Ignatius of Loyola famously encourages us to ask for the grace of an intimate knowledge of Our Lord Jesus Christ. This is exactly what God wants for us: Now this is eternal life: that they may know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom Thou hast sent (Jn 17:3).
