Beltway Bub is the story of a rebellious boy from Minnesota who eventually finds himself losing control within the wave of the 1960s and 70s. Bucking his Christian faith, he joins the hippie counterculture and turns to alcohol, nearly drowning in it. When the establishment fails to cure Bub, who’s found himself in the clutches of the law, he takes matters into his own hands, but . what follows is a wild and twisted ride! Yes, Bub ascribes the psychology he thinks he needs in order to change the way he thinks, but as he repeated fails to trouble with the law, he identifies with that old saying, Rome wasn’t built in a day. Bub’s situation sets the stage as his family moves to Washington DC in 1967. He’s attended Catholic schools in three different states and now he’s looking forward to public school. Street wise, by now, he works his way into the biggest clique to enjoy the perks and avoid harassment. So far, so good, until his family moves once again. Although his ploy had worked, living the life of a fraud had left a bad taste in Bub’s mouth. Therefore, he thought it very fortunate that, after moving inside the Beltway, to the exclusive town of McLean, Virginia, he met a hippie who befriended him. That friendship became a perfect fit for Bub as he and his new kind rebelled against the hypocrisies he’d witnessed unto himself and others. Warning! This novel begins with some of the vulgar and profane antics that preppy boys engaged in, without compromise. Only a spark, though, those soon seem like Romper-Room when compared to the self-indulgence, careless stunts and escapades Bub unleashes at the amazement of his hippie friends. And, before he knows it, falls way in over his head after being expelled from his high school. Unabashed, Bub seeks to control his passions, but after experiencing some success a private school in Washington DC, he gets busted for selling drugs. Although he’s a naive victim of entrapment, that doesn’t change the fact that he’s now under the microscope of the law, after being given a three year imposition of sentence. While that wouldn’t pose a problem for most people, Bub is now a full fledged, raging alcoholic, so a violent fight rises up with him — a fight between good and evil, or as they say in the West, spirit and beast.
