A new resource for genealogist and historians. This never-before-published journal was written 1844-1847, by Amos Hitchcock, a colporteur for the American Tract Society. While performing his duties, he traveled from his home in Brimfield, Massachusetts to distribute literature in East Tennessee. He listed his living and business expenses, recorded names of family and acquaintances, and provided a social commentary of life in East Tennessee. Transcribed and arranged in chronological order, Tennessee Travels is a new source for historical and genealogical research. Inclusion of actual photocopies of the original journal allows the reader to use this authentic primary resource to verify the original language and to have the pleasure of reading Mr. Hitchcock’s mid-19th century script. Features: over 300 names of East Tennessee residents, family and business contacts in Massachusetts and New York, chronological transcription of the original journal, facsimile of the original pages, documentation, and an index.
