Early Women Writers: 1600 - 1720

This work seeks to demonstrate the diversity as well as the literary and historical significance of early women’s writing. The author applies different feminist critical approaches to some of the central issues raised by early women’s writing and considers the complex interaction of gender with class and race in the period. The work examines the major works of important women writers of the 17th and early 18th centuries - Mary Wroth, Katherine Philips, Margaret Cavendish, Aphra Behn and Anne Finch.
