‘O Little Town of Bellingham provides a special Christmas surprise for Rufus and his friend Tommy (a boy who has spent most of his young life in a family internment camp in Idaho). The children find that Bellingham is not an entirely friendly town as the face some unpleasant encounters and some support from those close to them. The story grows as the boys begin school and other characters join and evolve in unexpected ways.
Rufus comes from a Quaker family and has lived in a relatively shelter community. He has learned of injustices lately which to him make no sense. His parents and Grandparent are working actively for Peace, Racial and economic justice.
Tommy’s grandparent and parents along with Tommy were sent to a relocation camp at the beginning of the war. Tommy’s father volunteered to serve while in the camp.
