For most of America’s history, the country’s Christian foundation has been celebrated. However, more recently, especially in academic, left-leaning political, media and entertainment circles, the country’s European immigrants in general are branded as ruthless conquerors. Along with an effort to delegitimize the American founding is an effort to delegitimize the government which sprang from that founding, putting at risk cherished and hard-won freedoms. Buried somewhere between truth and propaganda is the backstory of those who fled to the shores of the New World for religious freedom. They, and generations after them, believed God led them out of bondage, as He led the children of Israel out of Egypt. Fanning the Flames is the second book in the Shining City on a Hill series. Using a mixture of historical and fictitious characters and events, Shining City recounts the manner in which the cultural, political and religious revolution known as the Protestant Reformation led to the founding of the United States and freedoms enshrined in the U.S. constitutional system of government.Five hundred years after the events in Shining City on a Hill, when storm clouds of antagonism to Christianity and threats to freedom of conscience once again cast an ominous shadow over the world, the tragic and triumphal stories of those who stood firm against shackles of tyranny for adherence to conscience is a poignant message, for central to the American founding is the concept that freedom comes from God.
