Sgt. Freddie Brown served with distinction in the United States Marine Corps from 1965 - 1971, directly after high school graduation. He spent two tours of duty in the Vietnam War, from 1965 - 1967 and 1969 - 1970. For his military service, he received among other awards, two Purple Hearts. After being honorably discharged in 1971, Sgt. Brown reached fame in the 1970-80’s as a vocalist for the Baltimore-based R&B band, First Class. His singing career culminated with his dream of singing with the world-famous Drifters.
