Poetic Images: Ten Benches

Simple walks in a small local park –

• Feeling the rhythm of one’s footfalls or hearing a river’s flow

• Seeing and smelling the delicious beauty of trees and flowers

• Passing joggers, children giggling on bicycles, squirrels leaping

• Conversations with a friendly walker and his dog

• Breathing in the air, exercising the body

• Thinking about the day’s events and wondering about tomorrow

Frequent walks can end up being more than simple if one sees beyond the act of just walking in a park. Sometimes we already know what the walks can do for us – for the mind, body, and spirit. Poetry and photography can be the devices to bring about a deeper awareness and understanding of oneself and the surrounding world.
