This book began as a bedtime story. My now six-year-old son has been fascinated by the solar system for much of his life. When we learned that astronomers had observed red snow on Pluto, I made up a story about a red snowman who lives there.
The red snowman spends much of his time sledding down the foothills of one of Pluto’s mountain ranges. He would love to travel to other planets, but since he doesn’t have a rocket ship he uses his imagination instead. While sledding, he thinks about what it would be like to visit places like Venus, Mars, and Earth.
This book will help young readers develop a sense of appreciation for the vastness of the solar system, the differences between planets, and the value of using one’s imagination.
