Samantha Cabrera was diagnosed in 2019 with major depressive disorder and traits of borderline personality disorder. Having suppressed emotions throughout her life, her dysregulation emerged once she and her doctor-husband crossed the wedding threshold. Little did they know the unraveling to come, let alone the long road to healing.
Samantha openly shares her most vulnerable episodes and depressive states so others can truly go on the journey with her towards healing. Through the gentle loving and spurring of her husband, she sought treatment and now desires to share that even though she may not have it all together, she is right where God called her to be as a wife and mother. Even through the menial moments of changing diapers and prepping dinner, one can have the utmost joy despite having mental illness.
It's possible if we do one thing: trust the Great Surgeon with the surgery of our hearts.
Samantha Cabrera is also the founder and editor of Calla Press. She is a writer, artist, and certified (7-12) English teacher living in the Texas countryside with her loving husband and their children. Glorifying God through storytelling and creativity is her passion. She is a strong advocate for mental illness to become a normal conversation in the Christian Church. She can be found @samanthacabrerastudio. An excerpt from her memoir, The Doctor's Wife: Battling Mental Illness through Marriage and Motherhood, won an honorable mention at the WriterCon 2021 contest.
