When life calls you out, it’s usually onto a Highway, is a memoir in the sense that all the stories are true but it in no way attempts to present a complete overview of my life. The situations and events that I write about are those that inspired me to write, sometimes poetry, sometimes prose. The book toggles back and forth between the two. I like to think of this book as the tales and observations of a human growing up in the latter half of the twentieth century. The reference to highways reflects the important place they and the cars that traveled them occupied in my life, particularly in the 1950’s, both figuratively and metaphorically.
