Reveille
Reveille
Composed in 1937 this 5-minute concert study for violin with piano accompaniment begins languidly, before unleashing a torrent of virtuosic figuration for the violin. It was written for the Spanish violinist Antonio Brosa, who had given the first performance of Britten’s Suite Op.6 in 1936 and was to be the soloist in the first performance of the Violin Concerto Op.15 in New York in 1940, and would make an impressive showcase for any soloist.
