Cambridge Reading is a major new reading scheme providing stimulating books and support materials for the teaching of reading throughout the primary years. Key features include: a coherent yet flexible structure for teaching and learning; a variety of attractive picture books; a balance of text types and genres, including stories, poems and information books; an integrated phonics programme; comprehensive support materials. There are nine Information Books in the Becoming a Reader stage, designed to introduce young readers to information retrieval skills. Six are by Meredith Hooper three of which, Dinosaur, Osprey and Seal - all illustrated by Bert Kitchen - are concerned with living things. The remainder investigate the effect of human intervention on the landscape; these are The Bridge, The Forest and The Harbour, illustrated by Peter Kent.
