The author, now in her 50s, living amidst a pandemic lockdown, sits in the garden shed and considers the many contrasts to life as a young Kiwi in the 1990s when she had the freedom to travel the world. In doing so, she was led from Papamoa Beach in the Bay of Plenty to the rooftop of the world.

In her early twenties she meets the epitome of an English gentleman, a colleague in a London PR company. Their relationship moves through a decade of trials as friends, holiday romance and then an attempt at a longer term commitment.
