Digital Mobile Communications and the Terrestrial Trunked Radio Systems (TETRA)

TETRA is a system for mobile wireless communication. Its structure is comparable to the world-wide successful GSM system. Individual features, of TETRA are, however, different, often more efficient and better designed than in GSM, and so TETRA is serving as a source for the further development of standards for mobile telecommunications. TETRA systems themselves are designed for use by limited groups, such as police forces and airports, to allow them to communicate with security. Introducing the design and the applications of TETRA systems, this book is based on an industrial short course held at the University of Strathclyde. The author comprehensively analyzes both the public and private mobile communications scene, and devotes the majority of the book to the operation, characteristics, and design choices associated with the TETRA standard.
