Humble.M1nd is an Afghan-Canadian poet/spoken word artist, public speaker and mental health advocate. She has been writing poetry for over 15 years as a form of meditation/therapy but officially began publishing and performing her poetry in 2019. This is her first self created poetry book and the cover is a drawing made by her youngest sibling at the age of 12. Humble saved the drawing in hopes of using it someday for her own book. Her poetry is centered around breaking barriers around mental health from a young age. Humble consistently blogs about her personal struggles with mental health and the importance of listening to our mind, body and soul. Much of what humble has written targets the stigma around mental health and raises awareness for self care, intergenerational trauma, childhood trauma, PTSD, depression, anxiety, heartbreak, inner journey, self-healing and most of all, resilience! The author’s name, Humble. M1nd is the author’s personal concept of what it means to have endured trauma. Trauma makes your mind exceedingly humble. What does that mean? It is a long and grueling journey to overcome trauma as a child, a teenager and even an adult because trauma never lets you recognize your worth as an individual. It makes you downplay all your efforts and struggles in comparison to everyone else until the line between humility and a diminished self worth becomes blurred. Every thought becomes an enigma as the mind overthinks everything leading to depression, anxiety and more. Moreover, all of this transfers to your offspring if you do not seek help causing intergenerational trauma. Humble writes now not only to heal herself but to heal others who are on the same journey. She hopes her book finds others who can relate and inspires them to keep going and never give up on themselves and their future generations! Humble also writes pieces about social injustices and the importance of raising our voices to help those in need! Instagram @humble.m1nd.
