Arranged in nine chronological chapters, the work starts with the arrival of the Pilgrims in 1620 and ends with the anti-World Trade Organization protests in Seattle and beyond. Entries range between 500 and 1,000 words. Areas covered include utopian communities, Boston Tea Party, abolitionists, Nat Turner, Amelia Bloomer’s dress reform, Mormons, Mother Jones, Trade Unions, Ku Klux Klan, nudist movement, Cesar Chavez, and Timothy McVeigh. Coverage will also discuss the influence of radical ideas on the mainstream and the role of violence in radicalism.
