Getting to Know Waiwai: An Amazonian Ethnography

Alan Campbell tells the story of the Wayapi people and Waiwai, their charismatic leader. He tells of the time he spent with them, in an account that looks forward to Wayapi survivors 100 years from now and considers what will be left with them as the destruction of the Amazon forest proceeds. In doing so, he addresses important and complex issues in current anthroplogical theory in a way which makes them accessible without sacrificing any of their subtlety.
