Soldier Heroes explores the image of masculinity in adventure stories. Drawing on literary theory, cultural materialism and Kleinian psychoanalysis, it analyzes modern British adventure heroes as historical, masculine forms originating from the era of 19th-century popular imperialism. Tracing their subsequent transformations, it examines the way these identities are internalized and lived by men and boys.
