The subject of this book is the modelling of manufacturing systems using queueing network models. Two other closely related modelling techniques are also described in this book, simulation modelling and generative models for the buffer allocation problem. The main purpose of this reference work is to provide the reader with a good overview of past research in the area. This is done by describing the important models and by providing references that complement the main body of the text. In the presentation of the material, the emphasis is placed on categorizing different models according to the manufacturing system being modelled, rather than the mathematical technique used. This, it is hoped will lead researchers to carry out more applications-driven research. Queueing Theory in Manufacturing Systems Analysis and Design is intended for lecturers and researchers in operations research, manufacturing systems engineering and equivalent departments as well as graduate students. Research and development engineers in operations research groups or the equivalent in industry, and consultants working in manufacturing, should also find this book of interest.
