The dialogue in 1st Chronicles 17:15-27, between David and God, is one of the most pure and genuine displays of a humble heart we are going to read in the entire Bible. David loved God ... and God loved David. David was utterly committed to the Father/son relationship he enjoyed with God. He constantly looked for God's presence in every situation of life - and this attitude was reiterated throughout his life; including those fiercely intense times on the battlefield when he was swinging his sword with all his might, stabbing into another human's body or hacking off the head of his enemy (see 1 Samuel 17:37, 45-47). Both the verses in 1st Samuel and 1st Chronicles sound like a man who knows that God is with him! Never once did David take credit for defeating his enemies - every time he declared it was God moving through him that won the battle.
