They became allied with some of the most powerful families of Europe, the main Joinville title eventually passing to the House of Bourbon, where it remains today in the Orleans branch. Descendants of the ancient House of Joinville have various spellings of their name in addition to Joinville, including Geneville, Johnson, and Johnston.
